Drinks, Fish, and College football!

Friday night Chase and I literally walked across the street to the Plaza Del Bosque hotel for happy hour. If there is one thing you should know about Chile is nothing is as it seems and if something is too good to be true it is. Happy Hours are extremely hard to find, so when we found one so close we were very excited.

The restaurant is located on top of the 17th floor overlooking the Andes. I have really missed the Andes since we moved out of the Harris' apartment, so I was overjoyed to watch the sunset over the Andes. What Chase and I failed to understand was that the 2x1 happy hour does not apply to two people. So when Chase and I thought we were ordering two drinks for the price of one we weren't. It always pays to clarify.

Througly enjoying the mountains

One thing that is funny about drink is that they bring the alcohol out with a whole bottle of soda.

Even though the drinks were a little pricey Chase and I will definitely go back. My dad always says that you pay for the view and well every now and then we will want to see the mountains!

Saturday was another fun day in Santiago. We met up with Andrew for lunch in the Art district located close to the metro station Bellas Artes. It was a really unique place to walk around and I would love to go back again. After a lunch at a local cafe, we walked over to the Centro Mercado. I thought it was more than just a fish market and they did have more than fish but it was all sea food. I must admitt that it was a warm day and the market was located inside so it did not smell too great, but it was still fun to see.

One of the stalls, I honestly could not tell you what some of the sea creatures were.

After the Centro Mercado we set out to find the Mercado Negro or black market. We eventually found it but because Chile's independence day is this coming week most of the goods had to do with decorating and dressing for the big holiday.

Dresses for Chiles national dance the Cueca, Chase really wanted me to buy one so I could look more Chilean. Not sure it would help!

Andrew was the only one who made a purchase and I must admit that he made a good one. Chileans seem to love a couple things here and top of the list are fanny packs, mullets and public display of affection anytime possible. Chase and I are going to start trying to document some of these things so that everyone will believe us.

Andrew has spent a little too much time in Chile because his one purchase was a fanny pack. Maybe now everyone won't think he is a gringo.

After a full day of walking around Santiago, the boys were ready to watch some college football. There is one place in Chile to watch football, unless you happen to be the American Ambassador or his top staff and luckily it is in Santiago at Basic bar. It was the strangest feeling being at the Bar because for a couple hours we were surrounded by Americans watching college football not much different than a Saturday in the States, except we would have been watching Baylor or Texas not the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game. In fact when I went to go pay the bar tender I started speaking in English and quickly realized he had no idea what I was saying.

A very large table of rowdy Notre Dame study abroad students, they were incredible entertaining to watch!

Two very happy Football fans

Today, Sunday has been another very relaxing day. Unfortunately, laundry is an all day event here because it takes so long to dry things. Although we can not complain because we are one of the few with access to a dryer. But Chase got so tired of putting $2 worth coins in that we decided to use a hair dryer in our tiny bathroom to finish the job on our sheets!
