We found our very own place!

Saturday was a really big day for Chase and I. We signed our first lease in Chile! Up until Saturday it has felt like we have been on a long vacation enjoying the sights and sleeping in. Signing a lease makes everything much more permanent. Although it is a little scary we are very excited! We spent the rest of the afternoon signing up for internet and cable and buying a few things the apartment is lacking.

My biggest challenge is definitely going to be the fact that there is no oven. We have two burners and a microwave. Chase has promised to buy me a toaster oven which I am seriously hoping I can use to cook. Another challenge is that the fridge is one of those small ones that college kids now have in their dorm rooms. Basically I am going to have to be extremely creative in kitchen. So if you can think of any easy recipes they would be much appreciated. You might be wondering what entails an easy recipe just think if you could make it on camping trip then I might be able to make it here.

After such a long saga about how cooking is going to be so hard you might be wondering why in world we would choose such a place?

Los Condes is were the apartment is located and it is in a really safe location, located close to many hotels and restaurants. We will be so close to all of our family and friends who have promised to come visit. Also it is clean and was the right price. Furthermore it owned by a very nice woman who did not ask too many questions and did not require a lot of paper work. We are illegals so technically she could have made it really difficult to rent from her. The good new is we have a washing machine in the apartment and then a bigger washer and dryer downstairs. Dyers are extremely hard to come by in Chile.

On Saturday afternoon we waited all afternoon for the internet guy who came and set up the internet and cable. Yes, Chase and I now have cable a luxury we have done without for over 7 months but it was only $4 more dollars a month and well we could not resist.

Claudia and I at VTR (the cable company) waiting to sign up. We had gone to a local department store called Paris to get some towels and sheets.

Chase signing up for Internet and Cable

Unfortunately, approximately 2 minutes after he left the internet stopped working and we have been without for 4 days. In fact, a funny story Chase and I tried calling the cable company but could not get past the computerized voice because our Spanish is so bad. But through some very helpful Chileans and another long afternoon of waiting, we finally got our internet fixed!
